Where do I go when I need help?
Big Brother/Big Sister
Each first year student will be paired with a second year student. You will be notified during the spring about how to contact your big brother/big sister. Please feel free to use this person as a resource for any questions or concerns you might have. We are also working to schedule a get-together during the first weeks of class where you can meet your big brother/sister.
Tutoring (Supplemental Instruction)/Writing Center
MUSC offers a tutoring service at no cost to students. We HIGHLY encourage you to obtain a tutor for Anatomy. In fact, Dr Thomas will all but require it. Tutoring sessions meet for 3 hours a week, usually in two 1.5 hour sessions. For anatomy, tutors will also work with you in the lab for review of cadaver structures. If you are interested in a tutor for other classes, we recommend that you sign up in the first days of class to guarantee you are able to obtain a tutor, as they may be limited. To sign up for a tutor, visit the Center for Academic Excellence on the second floor of the library. For more information, visit http://www.musc.edu/cae/index.html.
The Writing Center is also located with the Center for Academic Excellence. You will be writing a few papers for your summer semester classes, and we HIGHLY recommend that you sign up for an appointment with the writing center for any paper. They will meet with you, or your group, to provide excellent feedback. For more information, visit http://www.musc.edu/writingcenter/.
Counseling and Psychological Services
CAPS provides individual counseling, educational workshops, and is also your resource for testing accommodations. CAPS is a great resource for seeking help when you feel overwhelmed and don’t know where to turn. Additionally, if you have been diagnosed with ADHD, please make sure to contact CAPS so you can submit all necessary paperwork before the start of the semester.
